Diezie Sahn Spotlight

JUSTIN: For those who may not yet know you, can you introduce yourself and provide a brief overview of who you are?

DIEZIE: Greetings, readers! My name is Diezie Sahn, as a martial artist and promising action actor, I possess both physical prowess and on-screen charisma. I reside in the lovely city of Atlanta. Currently training in Shaolin Kung Fu and pursuing a professional career in acting. My devotion to acting and martial arts began at a young age in West Africa, Liberia. I am a full-time private security officer, full-time pursuing my acting career, and a dedicated Kung Fu practitioner, with a wonderful family consisting of two beautiful daughters.

Can you share a moment in your journey that was particularly rewarding or impactful?

A memorable and exciting, rewarding moment on my journey as a martial artist was when I met Michael Jai White, A martial artist and an action star, father, and husband, he's a true definition of GRIT. Meeting someone who has inspired me over the years was truly an honor. I was struck by how humble and kind he was. To my surprise, he was equally impressed with my acting and martial arts work. Moments like this are beautiful and act as fuel to keep me going.

What do you feel is the key to balancing competition and maintaining a spirit of sportsmanship?

Friendly competition can be beneficial during martial arts training. It allows for growth and improvement between two individuals. However, it is important to keep the competition within the training ground and not let it affect one's morals or goals. Competing outside of the training ground can lead to deceitful behavior and goes against the principles of martial arts. In my opinion, the only true competition should be with oneself and the goals that are set to achieve.

With advancements in technology, how do you see it influencing the world of martial arts, whether in training methods, equipment, or connectivity within the martial arts community?

Advancements in technology have made it easier for people all around the world to practice martial arts in the comfort of their own homes. However, I believe in the old-school tradition of being a true martial artist by training day and night to achieve a high level of mental fortitude.

Reflecting on your entire martial arts journey, what has been the most unexpected lesson or insight you've gained?

One of the insights I've gained from practicing martial arts is the more you work on a form, the better you get, the closer you get to unraveling the form of its hidden gems. It goes from being difficult to memorize it, then the flow to perfecting it, and lastly making it your own. But your master never gives you all the gems, he slowly provides you with bits and pieces as you improve. Similar to life. Your future is just as good as the now.

Community appreciation and collaboration play a crucial role in the strength of Cup of Kick. Can you highlight individuals who have significantly contributed to your martial arts journey? In other words, who would you like to publicly acknowledge for their support and influence?

Shifu Bakary Traore, Shifu Deru, Master Thong, myself, and the GRIT to continue my practice through the toughest of times. I give my thanks to God.
