Jacky Dunnes Spotlight
JUSTIN: For those who may not yet know you, can you introduce yourself and provide a brief overview of who you are?
JACKY: My name is Jacky Dunnes. I am a martial artist/teacher, actor, stunt performer from The Netherlands. I started martial arts at the age of 4. I'm 33 now and I'm still as passionate as I was then.
How do you balance your commitment to martial arts with other responsibilities?
I put martial arts first, that's what I did. Whether I was busy with school or work or whatever, martial arts and training were always my top priority. It has everything to do with setting priorities. There is always time to train.
Martial arts communities can have a powerful impact. How do you engage with and contribute to the broader martial arts community, locally or globally?
By sharing as much as possible, through social media, and by giving demonstrations, workshops/seminars.
How do you incorporate practical aspects of self-defense into your training, and what key advice would you offer to readers as they approach their own self-defense training?
My advice is, do a lot of sparring. For me, sparring is very important when it comes to real fighting. That is also one of the reasons why sports such as boxing, MMA, kickboxing, BJJ are so effective, because everything is focused on sparring. And many techniques are fairly simple to learn.
So, my advice: learn the basics first, then spar as much as possible.
If you could go back and give advice to your younger self when you first started martial arts, what would it be?
Jacky, listen to your mom and eat your vegetables! Haha 🤣
Community appreciation and collaboration play a crucial role in the strength of Cup of Kick. Can you highlight individuals who have significantly contributed to your martial arts journey? In other words, who would you like to publicly acknowledge for their support and influence?
My thanks go to all my teachers, my martial art friends, and of course, Bruce Lee. He's the reason I started martial arts, and he still gives me the passion and energy to train.
Without him, I probably would have started playing football.
How can readers keep up with you or get in touch with you?
